Raise – best practice - St Christopher’s St Christopher's DRAMA

An out hours drama club was established which gave pupils different opportunities which included performing, painting, scenery making etc, writing scripts, making costumes, lighting, sound etc...  This club like all other clubs needed additional support for pupils depending on the child’s disability.

ART AND CRAFTS ACTIVITIES

During this activity pupils gained out of hours learning skills that could be utilised as a hobby or interest.  Pupils self esteem improved as their skills developed.  Pupils made portfolios of work that they could share with their parents.

Social and Independent : BUNGALOW CLUB

Our bungalow club was aimed at providing a life skills programme for pupils with lower ability levels.  Children were taught how to for example:

  • Lay a table

  • Make a bed

  • Cook a snack etc…

The pupils have developed skills in socialisation.

Basic Skills

  • We established detailed assessment processes which produced comprehensive quantitative evidence often measured against specifically graded criteria

  • We saw significant improvement in basic skills of literacy and numeracy as well as improved attitudes, and improved self esteem.

  • Pupils showed signs that they were enjoying the activities

  • From base lines we could see that value added was taking place as well as general progress
