An alternative approach at Key Stage 3
The project aimed to develop curriculum provision at Key Stage 3. A RAISE co-ordinator organised a wide range of practical activities for targeted groups of pupils. The project also included researching and planning an appropriate curriculum for all pupils.
Three Newport City High Schools were involved in the project.
Duffryn High School.
Duffryn High School is a 11-18 comprehensive school with 1200 on roll. Located on the west side of Newport, it serves a wide catchment area which includes five Communities First areas. The school profile reports 43.3% of students are eligible for free school meals.
Hartridge High School
Situated on the east side of the city, Hartridge High School is an 11 – 18 comprehensive school with 34% of pupils eligible for free school meals. Two Communities First areas are within the catchment. Work has recently started on the building of new school which should be complete by April 2012. There are currently 1000 pupils on roll.
Newport High School
Serving the north side of the city, Newport High School moved into a new purpose built school in October 2009. An 11 – 18 comprehensive school 33% of pupils are eligible for free school meals with 1000 pupils on roll.
